If you are a new Mum or a second or third time Mum, be kind to yourself and book a Mamaheaven retreat. The first time I went, I was so exhausted I was just grateful for the creche so that I could have some time to myself. Actually, I really enjoyed the yoga and came away so energised that I began to think that it wasn't just more sleep I needed but more yoga. I went on a second retreat because I wanted someone to look after me for the weekend. It is my idea of a perfect weekend: delicious and healthy food, an amazing massage, loving ladies to look after me and my baby and morning yoga to get me going, all in a beautiful countryside setting. I came away feeling very loved and nurtured as a mother. It certainly made me feel happier and more loving towards my family when I got home.

At Mamaheaven mothers and babies take part together in mother and baby yoga classes. The mamas bring their babies with them and learn how to include their babies in their practice using playful adaptations of the classic yoga poses. These sessions can include babies of all ages allowing mothers to feel that exercise is not out of their economical, physical or geographical reach.
Exercising with our babies can have hugely long lasting benefits not just for the mother but for the child as well. The mother gets to gently stretch and exercise her post-natal body which helps improve muscle tone and boosts energy levels. It’s hugely beneficial and t imprints on the child a positive pattern of calming learnt behavior by watching and being involved with its mother whilst she exercises her mind, body and spirit.
For many mothers the idea of being able to do anything they did in their previous pre-mama life can seem impossible. Many routines have been put in place to manage the demands of a new being in their worlds and stepping out of these routines is sometimes daunting.
Our mother and baby yoga classes help mothers reconnect with their old lives with new eyes helping them to see the huge potential of activities that they can do with their child, This challenges the idea that mothers have to arrange childcare or wait till their children go to school (or leave home!) before they can get on with things that they miss in their lives. We find that in these sessions babies are very flexible and enthusiastic and everyone has lots of fun It’s also an incredibly bonding time as mothers gaze into their babies eyes during dog-pose or hold their children aloft. The mutual involvement of mother and baby at a gentle pace brings a sense of well-being to both.
